Behind the Scenes with the Washington Athletic Club and Northwest Explorer
While shooting Northwest Explorer, our work has taken us into some extraordinary places across Washington. But few have the blend of history, heart, and community quite like the Washington Athletic Club.
Over the past several months, we’ve created a collection of videos that shine a light on the WAC from every angle — its partnership with Seafair, the Back of the WAC tour, the building’s storied past, and what the club means to Seattle today. Together, they form a portrait of a landmark that’s more than just a building: it’s a hub where tradition and community meet.
Seafair and Celebration
Filming during Seafair showed us just how vibrant the WAC’s role is in the city’s summer celebrations. From welcoming visitors to supporting events on the waterfront, the club radiated the same energy and pride that define Seafair.
Back of the WAC
The “Back of the WAC Tour” may have been one of our most memorable shoots. We followed the hallways and tucked-away spaces that most members never see — the behind-the-scenes places where staff keep everything running seamlessly. Shooting there revealed not just the inner workings of the building, but the dedication that fuels the WAC experience.
A Living History
The WAC’s history is written into its walls. Filming inside the club gave us a chance to highlight its art deco architecture, the vision behind its creation, and the way it has stood as a landmark through decades of change in Seattle. Every corner held a story, and every frame reminded us of the city’s deep connection to this building.
The Heart of the Community
Sports have always been at the heart of the WAC. From basketball on the 8th floor to squash rivalries, swim meets, and marathon training, the WAC is a place where Seattle has come to play, compete, and connect for generations.
Looking Back, Looking Forward
For us, filming at the WAC was about experiencing the rhythm of a place that continues to evolve while honoring its past. It’s rare to find a space that feels both historic and alive, but the Washington Athletic Club manages to strike that balance beautifully.
